What is CIS-Connect

CIS-Connect is a product to help contractors and subcontractors cope with the reforms to the Construction Industry Scheme scheduled for April 2007.

It communicates with HMRC across the internet to establish sub-contractors tax treatments and records the communications so that both contractors and subcontractors can be sure that the right level of CIS deductions are being applied.

CIS-Connect will work alongside your accounting system to manage deductions and payments. CIS-Connect will warn you if a payment appears to be incorrect based on the data in your accounting system.

Is CIS-Connect an accounting system?

No, CIS-Connect is not an accounting system. If you have a packaged accounting system, it may be difficult or expensive to update it to do all of the things that you need it to do for CIS 2007. CIS-Connect will bridge the gap.

Who can use CIS-Connect

CIS-Connect is for contractors and sub-contractors alike. Contractors can use CIS-Connect to make sure that they comply with the new regulations. (After a bedding in period, HMRC penalties for late returns or poor data quality will be automatic and based on the number of sub-contractors you use.)

Sub-contractors can use the CIS-Connect portal to maintain their tax credentials online and keep employers and contractors up-to-date with their details. They can also obtain their tax treatment online from HMRC to make sure that they will get paid correctly.

This means that the contactor doesn’t need to play piggy in the middle between the subcontractor and HMRC when it comes to the issues of rates of deduction.
